Unity Driving

My eldest has started the driving journey. With the classroom portion out of the way she has moved on to the practicals and getting her behind the wheel time. I remember my first experiences behind the wheel, driving a manual ‘98 Wrangler, as a world opening experience. Everything, from late night, post football Waffle House runs to visiting the wrong school in an attempt to pick up my youngest brother, was a top down, four wheel adventure. This passion has carried through my whole life and I have always enjoyed driving. Today the wind still wips through my hair and though the current lineup of vehicles in the stable is automatic my eye is always watching for a meaningfully priced Triumph or some similar vestige of the small, manual engined past.

One instance of this passion manifesting is my near constant ownership of a racing simulator setup. I have never dipped my toes into the level of exorbinance that one could, oddly, find within these walls I currently have a collapsable seat and Logitech G923 setup connected to my Series X and thought this would provide a pretty neat platform to test some proof of concept theories I have had in Unity.

Leaning heavily on CodeHoose’s beautiful work I setup a drivable demo of real world local locations. Connecting this to my Logitech Wheel and eventually adding a fellow NPC drivers would be a pretty neat driving tool for learning the rules of the road.
